As a MetLife Center for Special Needs PlanningSM Specialist, Alan Temkin is dedicated to working with the special needs community in offering assistance and financial guidance, as well as educational workshops for families of special needs children.

Center Mission

MetLife Center for Special Needs PlanningSM, was established in 1998 to extend MetLife’s traditional commitment of public service to families with children of any age, from infant to senior, who have a disability. The Center is committed to helping families through the maze of legal and financial complexities surrounding planning for the future of dependents with special needs. Through a dedicated network of Special Needs Planner, the Center helps families secure both lifetime care and quality of life for their dependents with special needs.

The Need

People with disabilities constitute the largest minority in the United States, making up and estimated 20 percent of the total population.

  • Of the 69.6 million families in the United States, more than 20 million have at least one family member with a disability.
  • One in every 26 families reported raising children with a disability.
  • 21.2 million individuals reported having a disability that limits their ability to engage in basic physical activities such as walking, climbing stairs, reaching, lifting, or carrying.
